I need to get tax before the weekend but can't find my MOT certificate, apart from paying another £10 for another copy, is it possible to use the VOSA online form that confirms your vehicle has a valid MOT instead? It seems to have all of the relivant info but not sure if it will be accepted by the post office?

Anyone tried this?

Cheers
Matt

As above, the disc is normally with you in 2-3 days but the police computers (and ANPR) know as soon as you've paid.

Had a look at that but I won't get the tax before the weekend, and if I go to the post office I can tax it from the start of November instead of having to tax it from the start of October. *wink*

tax disc wise the paperwork is sufficient i have been told. (phones up for a mate to find out) they said that while the disc is coming through the post if you display the paperwork from the site then there shouldnt be a problem.

i did not like the word "shouldnt" though! but it was good enough for my mate to have peace of mind.

as far as i was away the non displaying is just as bad of an offence as not having any tax.

uhmm wirth a phone call i think.

Its bollox it really is! If I can access the VOSA site im sure the post office could! Im sure they just like making things awkward!

The annoying thing is I know ive got the cetificate, I "put it somewhere safe" and now can't find it! lol

Think I may just try the online proof document at the post office (worth a shot I suppose), if that don't work tax it sat morn and hope!

Having a copy of the paper work in the car, prooving that I paid for the tax is a good idea though! *oh well*

There's a DVLA office just across the road from where I work and I've gone in there before to Tax my car and they need to see the MoT certificate as they can't see there own database, so I doubt the post office will stand a chance. I love the fully integrated electronic world we live in.

Cant you just tax it at midnight?

Then the records will be up to date.

The likelyhood of you getting pulled is slim, you may see an anpr van but if its taxed on line then all will be good

Although you may get a £30, or £60 fine for not displaying a tax disc....

You do know that you can tax online upto 15 days before its due to start??!! If you do it today, or had done it yesterday it would start on the 1st November unless you specify otherwise.

Just tax it online, print off the paperwork and take it in the car with you!

They can see you've paid and you cant display a tax disc which is in the post can you, but you've paid for it and the car is classed as taxed so its legit.

Or even just stick the conformation email you print off on your windscreen, if they pull you at least you can say you tried!! hehe

Tried this last night and it would only let me tax it from the begining of October!

Woohoo looks like the post office have reached the 21st century!!

They taxed it without seeing the MOT certificate, they said it gets automatically checked online as they process it! :)
