O/T....living in a workshop...lol

right, a little while ago the mrs and i knocked it on the head an decided to go our seprate ways,shame after 4 years but shit happens,(nude pics will follow dont worry)

so i now have a £650 mortage to pay each month plus £390 for my workshop,so as you can tell im not very rich at the moment,
what were gonna do is rent the flat out to one of her parents friends who we fully trust so thats not a problem which at this time is better because we'll get slapped if we sell it , but we'll have to top up th £50 because its a bit too much other wise, so thats that sorted,
She's gonna move back to her parents house but unfortunatly i cant.....lol,
so i have the option of getting a flat else where....BUT ive been looking and in the area where i am im not gonna find much more than a poxy room for less than £100 a week , the ghetto areas are a little less,but il still need to lay out like £1000 before im even in...

SO....got me thinking.....how much would it cost me to convert half my workshop into a little flat/studio thing,
its roughly 8m X 10m,plus in has an upstairs area which is about
8m X 3m i'd say,
so the upstairs is suitable for a bedroom area with enough room in the corner for a free standing shower,

and the on the ground floor il just divide it up and clear out all my junk and just have a small garage size area to work in and the rest for living,

one thing.....well a few,
there's no gas so could get nippy But the electric is all in with the rent so i could just get some leccy heaters,
no toilet in my unit its self but there is one down the alley,which is still covered so its not like id get wet,

not too sure on drainage for stuff like sinks and shower but it cant be that hard ,can it?
id be without a washing machine, but there's a laundry place over the road,
and id have to find a leccy oven or get a gas bottle of some kind to run a normal one,?
so really ive just gotta price up what i need in materials and get cracking,
i know it sounds a bit pikey but il do it so its nice inside,
just wondering what id say to the land lord if he came down,
he lives over 300 miles away tho, so i doubt it,
and ive asked the other blokes there and they said he dont care just aslong a rent is paid.........

any thoughts??????

As Robert says, when times are hard you have to do what you have to do.

However I have to ask, isn't the money better spent on getting you into a flat of some kind rather than on bodging together a temporary living accomodation that has the potential to get you into bother?

you are right,i should really go for somthing already done , but this way i keep my workshop and im atleast £500 better off each month, no excuse for not fixing my car either...lol
id just have to keep it all on the ''low''...
i ''think'' i could do it for about £500-800ish
ive just bought a free standing shower for £50 so thats a start...lol

il get some pics up and you can all take the piss.......lol
P.s if any one wants to pop over and lend a hand feel free....i have LOTS of beer.....lol

Drainage will be a problem, and if the electricity bill suddenly shoots up due to the cost of running the electric heaters it will be noticed

Plus if the council find out.....


However it will be very Heartbreak High stylee

A mate of mine who works for Mclaren lives in his workshop and has done the flat conversion. He only works there 4 days a week so those are the days he gets a shower yuk :(

He does have washing machine, microwave, fridge, 3 phase and broadband though.

Why not get a lodger? How big is the spare room?

sorry the hear about the situation. Just watch yourself with the council - the workshop will be for industrial use for a start. Also check your lease - a lot of them are quite specific about using them for residential use.

putting that all aside, a caravan in the corner will give you everything you need in an insulated box.

I have spent some nights in my fathers boat when i was destroyingwelding a Mercedes.
Luckely i live 200meters away from my garage. and 1km away form another garage i restore my other car.
Hope it all goes well. Just another story to tell the grand children.

I may know someone with a spare room in Hullbridge if its any interest. I know his last lodger has just moved out
