Has anyone ever run a bronze idler gear thrust washer? I am trying to find a .155" thick washer, the only one I have found so far is bronze. My concern is that the bronze can't handle the velocity of the gear. However, the Primary gear's thrust washer is bronze...so maybe I can last... thoughts...

There was a fair bit of discussion about this recently

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=248104

The tables I looked at, at the time, seem to show the surface speed rating of bronze to be an issue.

Remember the primary gear bronze washer sees ZERO speed for 99.9% of its life.

On the other hand, the laygear thrust washers look like some sort of bronze, but not plain bronze - they have some sort of dimples all over them, presumably for oil retention which may be how they cope with the speed.

If someone has tried it, I too would be interested as I'm still thinking what to do about these washers for my second gearbox (albeit for other reasons).

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
