Anyone got any good tips for removing the sound deadening pads that were fitted from the factory?

I've just taken out the headlining to make way for the cage, and there a couple of rather ugly pads stuck to the roof!

Put a blow heater in the car and get it realy hot in there, then scrape it off with a wallpaper scraper.

Try a cold chisel on the floor stuff.

The residue will DA off.

Mine is long gone.

hot air gun is the best way, makes it go soft then scrape it, just a giallofly said. Then use panel wipe to clean it off (this leaves the paint/primer in place.

likewise if the sound deadening has started to come away and you want to keep it, use a hot air gun and a roller to put it back in place.

Be careful how hot you get it, it may warp your roof if you go too o.t.t. Use some good gloves too as it takes a while to cool down and will burn you quite badly.

Good luck

I did the oposite, I got it really cold, (as it was below freezing in workshop) banged the floor and it all cracked off

right guys thanks for the input, might give it a go at the weekend with the hot air gun. See what comes off then have a go with getting rid of the adhesive, still got the headlining adhesive to get rid of as well.

will have to leave the getting it cold unless we are due a weather change, mind you the progress of working on the car could easily slip into the depths of winter!

all sound deadening pads removed now, apart from anything lurking behind the doors, 4 off the roof, and 1 of each rear quarter, fortunately there isn't any on the floors from when the previous owner did a bit of resto

went for a slightly different approach, used the paint scraper as jon recommended, but instead of the heat gun i wheeled the old girl outside into the sun for a couple of hours which softened the adhesive nicely!
