First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

ive been having a problem with my car in that it wont idle, its been a bit of a pain but as it wasnt working properly it wasnt a problem

so today after fiddling with the cooling system i took the car for a run and whilst cruising along in 4th off boost it started to misfire a bit so i backed off and when i carried on the problem was fine.

however im also having the problem that the car wont idle very annoying, it will for about 20secs and then dies,
ive checked the fuel pressure and that was at 4.5psi, which is a bit high but its how it was rolling roaded so i could run it in, and whipped out the plugs and they were exceptionally black and sooty

any suggestions what it is? im thinking the fuel pressure is too high so its flooding the carb and stalling, i backed it off to 3.5psi but it would just stall, so ive got it back at 4.5 now

your assistance would be greatly recieved

If it isnt running right, that could be the cause of it over heating.

Rolling road could be the answer here.

Forgotten more than most ever know

I´d set the fuel pressure to 3,5 psi and richen the mixture a bit to begin with. SU does not like high fuel pressure and will sooner or later flood with high pressure.

What needle, what plugs ? If it has been running rich it is possible that you will have plug related misfire problems.

I've had the EXACT same problem on my car now, and it was down to too much fuel pressure.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I had the same on my old turbo and that was too high a fuel pressure and also hard choke seals in the carb *smiley*

assuming you've rebuilt the carb with new seals but just thought id point it out.

ah ha sorted! the carb was rebuilt yes, but the problem was down to the float valve being faulty or something and not being able to take the vibrations of the engine,

ive changed it this morning and my problems with it running poorly are gone
