Right Chaps and Chapesses, bit of advice really ive lived in my house 7 months now and have settled in nice however next door there is a middle aged couple, the woman seems very nice but the husband is a bit wierd. Ive heard moans in the middle of the night like hes having nightmares. Also he plays music very loud (usually tubular bells) at silly oclock in the morning from time to time. Usually a sharp bang on the wall and it goes away, this has happend a few times and ive let it go, but last night at 2.30am the music starts, i lost my rag big time went round banged on his door and expressed my displeasure and told him to pack it in.

Hopefully this is the end of it. But if it happens again can i phone the police/is it worth it. Or should i knock seven shades out of him! The missus is against the latter of the suggestions.

Keep a diary of when it ocurrs.

If it persists, get in touch with your local environmental health officer at the council and explain the problem.

Make sure you are not causing them equal distress.

Im deffinately not, i have the lads round on a friday night but the noise is very little and always isolated to the loft area and never goes past 10-11pm.

Apart from that we dont really make much noise.

Feed him his teeth for liking tubular music and playing it loudly!

At uni when the neighbours where loud (also students) me and my house mates just cranked up some metal until they stfu! :)

Trouble is i have neighbours at the other side and they have young kids, so out of common curtesy i dont do anything like that.

I do have access to decabelleromterreadery jobbers.

the woman upstairs from me has had workers in doing stuff,

starting at like 7.30am bangingthe shit out of stuff...wankers
and its my day off!!

Thats slightly different tho, people do decorating ect, if it were that up til about 9pm i wouldnt be bothered at all. But its Music at silly oclock!

Most councils have a noise nuisance number you can call. Ours operates from 9pm to 3am and will visit to assess the level of nusiance and act accordingly.

Police wont do anything, do as Paul says, unfortunately it's a very long drawn out process.

record times and dates and let the council deal with it. Knocking his teeth out will only end up with you getting the hassle

My neighbours had dogs that would bark all the way thru the night and day as they had them kept in a court yard and wouldn’t let them in the house at all.

Trying to sleep when all you can year is bark bark bark bark bark doesn’t work.

We had noise recording done by the council, and they said to them either sort the dogs out or we will put them down, id rather they get re housed to be honest.

make a note of times/dates/decriptions and speak to your local ASB team

I can sympathise with you Mike from when I used to rent a house, I moved in and there were some lovely people next door, about 12 months later they moved on and an absolute dickhead moved in, proper scroat, but unfortunately for me he was obviously the first of all of his scroaty mates to get a place of his own, so straight away they would be round till all hours pissed up, the worst thing though was when he got a PA system as they obviously had themselves down as gangster rappers, oh my god what a awful noise sometimes till the early hours.
I had to hammer on the door times many to get them to shut the fuck up, in the end thank fuck he lost his job and the house got repossessed.

Hehe! Well its been as quiet as a mouse for the last couple of days! So hopefully i scared the living $hit out of him!

The guy next door was great, never heard a peep from him. But he has since moved and we've got a piss-head fuckwit that listens to 'Harry Nilson - I Can't Live' as loud as possible at 3.30am!

I think if you tollerate the noise for a while they get the impression they can do it again and again and nothing will happen.

Thats the reason i went round and went potty!

Basically i banged on the door (nearly punching it) he came to window and i shouted "open the £$%"ing door now" he said "oh is my music too loud" I reply "too "$%£ing loud, your taking the pi$$ out of me!, its 3 in the £$%Sard morning So turn it off!"

And he replied with nothing but a worried look.

I gave him no warnings or polite notices because he was totally out of order.

If you think you can take him just go round in your boxer shorts tense up and get serious with him!
