Think this is the problem i have got but im not sure.

My fueling seemed alright i thought, with 14:1 idle, 12 - 13:1 cruise and 10 -11:1 full load.

But after 15- 20minutes of driving, when comming off of the throttle and coasting, it will start struggling to idle and sometimes even cut out. The A/f falls off of the lean side of the gauge and the revs are up and down. If i rev'd it off idle it would normally cut out, but sometimes if i come up to a roundabout slowly using the gears, and have to stop it will be ok and it will idle ok, untill i rev the engine and it will start struggling to idle or cut out.
If it cuts out, it can sometimes be hard to restart the engine.

Anyone think this is Fuel evapourating or something else?
If it is Fuel Evapourating, what could be causing it to get so hot?
I have a heatsheild based on Jasons design with lots of heat sheild cloth.

Edit: Forgot to say, The carb is really cold to touch, not warm at all.

Rich missfire due to lack of manifold heating in cold weather, causing high fuel film on the manifold and slugging liquid fuel into the engine?

Rich Missfires will show as a lean condition with any Lambda/ AFR gauge

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

That might be the problem sprocket, because im not running a heated manifold.

So do you think its worth sorting out my plumbing and heating the manifold.
Or should i lean off the mixture slightly?

Thanks,
Shaun.

i would stick the heating back on. that way you can see easily if it has worked or not without thinking that you havent leaned it off enough. then leaning it off more and potentially causing damage.

yep i will go with that i had same problem last year when cold, ran like shit unless flat out or cruise then when idling and pulling away id didn t like it.

all down to carb icing

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

The best air fuel ratio for an internal combustion engine is 15:1 Your running lean all the time.

Since when has keeping heat in a mini engine bay been an issue! Getting rid of it has always been the bane of cars fitted with turbo charged lumps.

maybe try to talk about something you know...

Carb icing is due to the pressure difference in the air in the carb, and makes the carb ice up. this can also happen if its 15 degrees outside...

15:1 is lean, 14.7:1 is stoch and anything less (ie 12:1) is rich.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

re plumb the inlet manifold through the heater matrix and take it from there
12.5 to 13:1 mixture is where the fun is
