After my little braking problem i have taken advantage of some fairly clear weather and took out the mini at the weekend, everything was fine the i did a hill start and my pressure gauge lost all oil pressure. Now before we go down the no oil pressure route I have a oil pressure warning light (sensor) as well and that didn't come on, I checked all connections etc when i got back and everything seemed fine.

Now i did change the setup of the pressure take of the other day to point up at the sky instead of towards the back of the engine.....

like this? (excuse drawing)

does anyone know of any problems running it like this, its kind of just how the threads where tight?

i think that and maybe low oil would be to blame, did the pressure come straight back? whats it like driving hard right? does it do it then also... if yes then you dont have a central oil pick up pipe (ie the standard one)

the oil under pressure will go anywhere the pipe says if you get me?

then it must be the gauge? Cause the engine has pressure, I will check oil level, but i checked that before i went out and it was fine, and i do have a central pickup pipe. any other ideas?

what gauge is it, an electric or a normal one? My electric one was always on the piss so i ditched it for a plain one.

check for leaks around the sender.

Finally, assume the gauge is correct and check the oil pressure release valve is ok. I got rid of the shuttle set up and pit in the ball and spring type and it solved all my problems.

Remove the gauge from the pipe. You'll soon enough see if the gauge is faulty. Also, if you have a white plastic pipe, you'll see the oil moving.

you wil only see oil moving if you have the gauge disconnected, as its no flow through this pipe.

Its an autometer gauge from the states, so quality should be good, it is mechanical and has a braided line, its only done this since yesterday, never before.

took it all apart last night and it seems there must have been a blockage of some description cause i was getting plenty of oil at the gauge, plumbed it all back in and its all good! HAPPY DAYS!!!!
