I am kind of new to the whole turbo thing.

Apart from the metro turbo are there any other good donors for turbo bits? I am thinking mainly of the actual turbo, carb and plenum. How similar are the maestro/montego items for use with a mini engine?

I am trying to source as many bits as I can so I can enjoy turbo power soon, the 1275 upgrade seems a little tame now already!! Having said that I want to get bits that will do the job well if I can

Not very sunny swanage

maestro and monty both had the sameish (need a small mod) carbs and turbos, and both had a plenum chamber you can use if youre going to run an intercooler (actually the maestro may have the same as metro? not sure, both usuable tho!) that said, good luck finding a monty or maestro!

other expensive bits like fuel pumps are available from other sources second hand, i think you can use injection fuel pumps off any injected car, and fpr's are fairly cheap new i think, but you can run with a r5gtt if you can find one of those easier or cheaper.

It would pay you to spend a lot of time reading, since there seem to have been a lot of threads on building turbo engines recently, covering a number of very good points, (like you are better using a n/a engine as a base etc!)

hth and isnt to condesending (sp)

i was wondering about this, was in the scrappy earlier and found a montego turbo, no turbo on it but how about the pump, pressure regulator, intercooler? any other parts?

When you say the carbs and turbos need small mods, what sort of mods are they? and how difficult are they to do?

i think the montego's had an automatic choke, but you can get conversion kits to remove this feature. The plenum can be used as pete said, and they also come with a different spring for the 'austin dump valve' that is a higher rating than the metro's. Not a big deal as some people block these off.

I've also got a feeling the wastegate actuator on the montego might be stronger than the metro's too.

Might be easier to source some metro parts as they usually come with the manifolds etc, and the montego/maestro one are not suitable.

Something a few people have done including me and iain is to get a complete metro turbo car and get all the bits you need and break the rest to some metro loving people. The prices of these cars does seem to be going up now though, so keep your eye out in your local papers, as anything like this on ebay will attract alot of attention.

Have a good read through the site and you'll pick up loads of info!
