Hi Lads,

Ok, against the masters advice I am still thinking about running a front mount radiator with Davies Graig electric water pump. I want to remove the mechanical pump and fan completely and run just the leccy one.
The thing is - right now, the temps are perfect.
I had a dodgey guage for temp and after fitting a very calibrated Drift thermo setup its basically sitting on 72deg C and climbs to 85max... in hot traffic.

So couple of questions:
1. Does anyone know which radiators fit without chopping into a clubman for front mount
2. Is there REALLY less noise without the 11 blade plastic fan and mechanicl water pump
3. Does it cool better or not really?
4. I was told the mechanical setup actually pulls air around the motor and keeps that cool by design AS WELL as cooling the radiator - can we do this still or no need

Thanks,
Pete

i know its hardly as hot over here as over there but i know that matty (with a front mount fiat cinquecento rad and leccy pump in a round nose) struggles to get decent temps sometimes!

rads - fiat cinq - metro mk1 and paul s mentions some the other day that would be worth a look but it depends on what you have down the front of the engine as to what you are going to be able to fit.

noise - someone with this set-up will be able to tell you better than i can

cooling- mentioned above

pulling air around the engine - i dont know but i doubt it. at 30mph the air speed coming in through the grille is going to be greater than that of what the fan can move. and at idle i doubt has enough speed to move enough air to make a difference.

The Cinq rad is just perfect. Nice and slim and the perfect placement for out/inlet.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

The 11 blade fans are noisy and anything much above idle stop working efficiently and just sap power. Obviously if you fit a front mount rad you will need an electric fan for occasional use.

It all depends on whether you think it is all worth it. As you know a decent setup side mount rad is fine. You could remove the fan and replace the water pump and keep the sidemount, just add an electric fan in the inner wing.

Ok, so since its running cool (actually great temps) the only difference really would be noise and possible a couple hundred (lol) horsepower by tossing the mech water pump and 11 blade fan. Might not be worth spending big $$ on the Davies Craig water pump then... but losing the fan and fitting a thermo might still be the go. Hrm...

If $$ allow, ill add the leccy water pump later... that means the fan is there already, also means I can remove the radiator easier (since no fan)

Sounds like a plan - thanks Lads!

Also, IF the engine bay temps then increase and the theory is true about the fan pulling air around, ill just fit another thermo on the opposite side of the engine bay neatly hidden that blows air into the engine bay... might work well since my turbo is over the otherside anyway.

Nice, got some ideas now, just have to lose the Wife for a few hours lol

Cheers,
Pete

Yeah im running cinq rad, leccy pump and 80 degree thermostat. The electric fan rarely gets used.

In cold days its borderline if mine gets out of warmup enrichments, and the engine always cools down by stupid amounts even when running down the 1/4. lol I think thats a sign for more boost! :)

If you go for an electric pump the Meziere ones are top pieces of kit.

Ok, how many litre / minute do I need ?
I can get 80l/min or 110l/min

I think 80 should to as my mate runs the 110 on his chev V8 and the rad is in the front with looooong pipes to the motor in the rear (twin turbo 350 Chev in a 911 Porsche *wink*
