Fitted the bonnet catch today (not been on since the respray), and tried adjusting the bonnet plunger to get the closing gap back to normal (its a new bonnet from MS) as it was about half an inch to high, so slackened off the lock nut, and screwed it in anout half an inch.

But now Ive found that everytime the bonnet is slammed shit, the bracket that the plunger is on bends up slightly (its only held on by 2 spot welds from the looks of it) which is causing the plunger to bend inward toward the engine block, and subsequently when you try to open the bonnet, even when the catch is fully over the bonnet isnt coming up, as the plunger is caught underneath rear edge of the hole.

Ive done it slowly with the grill off and an inspection mirror under the catch, and you can see the pin starting off central, then being bent backwards as it comes down under the pressure of the spring.

what can i do about this? take it up with minispares? Its a genuine replacement bonnet...

Im really not happy as its sprayed now

Don't know the solution, possible a polish stainless reinforcing plate? I'm guessing when you wound the plunger up you increased the preload on the spring.

my thoughts too rob

another thing that pissed me off about this bonnet also is that it has extra brackets for something (are the hinges located differently on mpi's?) and theyre in the way of the bonnet stay clip so using a lacky band to secure it at the mo.

tbh i can see me sourcing another decent 2nd hand bonnet and having it sprayed rather than bodging up this crunt.

The bonnet lock on an mpi is in the centre of the bonnet, due to the front mounted radiator. If thats what you mean?
