Guys.

Got a question concerning operation of the HIF44 MT carb.

With the engine stationary ........

Does anyone have any experience with what happens when you take the dashpot (complete with needle etc) off the carb body and then apply fuel pressure to the carb ?

Should the rising action of the float and the closing of the needle valve in the base of the carb close off the flow of fuel to the jet holder or will fuel shoot up from the jet - even if momentarily ?

It's just that mine does this and I'm wondering if my needle valve is buggered or the float is punctured before I go taking the carb off to check.

Also, does anyone have any experience with the Nylon needle valve conversion (as a replacement for the brass needle) ?

Is this something that you would include when re-building your carb for example ?

Cheers.

Richard.

i had this problem on my very first build, the fuel should not squirt up out the jet, the air flowing over (when running) is what pulls the fuel out.. my carb had all ready been rebuilt it was a case of setting up the float (something i didnt know about) you have to set the level the float closes the needle, i am 100% sure it was in the haynes manual but i dont have mine to hand so i cannot say more

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

The best needle valve to use has a little black tip - the Viton tip, I,ve never had to try and reset the fuel level in an SU so I guess I must be lucky

Sounds like a carb off job then.

Bugger, was hoping to get away with it - its a bit tight in the back of the van's engine bay.

Cheers.
