hi all just started my first turbo a+ engine not sure what to do how to get best performance to power. What i can actually do with the engine e.g pistons crank cam etc. etc.
so far ive striped the engine down and had the block skimmed and head aswell but not sure were to go from there
ive brought new shells and complete gasket top and bottom set ready for putting back together.
if any one has any suggestions i am more than happy to listen to them

First thing to do is check the compression ratio. If you have skimmed the head AND block then you'll have raised it. Which is exactly the opposite of what you need to be doing.

Theres a wealth of information on the site - just click the seach button and have a butchers.

I can recommend the ultimate builder DVD - building an A series engine. Provides great advice (and is directed for the beginners) so is thorough, and its much better to watch someone doing it then reading a book TBH.

I am basically in the same shoes as you as I started doing my project a just a few weeks ago!

Good luck!

you have to increase the size of the chambers in the head or increase the dish in the pistons.

speak to / search for BENROSS for the head.

depending on how much has been skimmed will determine what size the chambers can go. and in turn what size dish pistons you will need.

have a look at avonbar for a typical look at what pistons are available, and in what dish sizes.

Everything is similar to an non-turbo build except for the lower compression ratio which has been metioned already (using bigger dish pistons such as the cast or forged Omegas and enlarging your combustion chambers in the head), and perhaps cam choice (there is lots on info on here about the phase 2 cam, kent 266, SW5, NA MG Metro etc) and perhaps a decent high volume oil pump (like super/supa/what-ever-you-call-it flow from Avonbar).

Well except for the fact that the correct pump is named POWERflow. It can be bought from both avonbar and minispares

the pump is just the same as a normal pump, so no oil gallery changes are needed

Sorry, got confused with something non-mini for a while there.

Camwise, people have tried the ones I listed on my other post. Have a good search on the site, there is heaps of info on cams. Rockerwise I personally want 1.3 roller tip (but not full rocker) rockers but no-one does them except Minisport and theirs uses alloy posts that I don't like. So I think it will be pressed steel standard ones for me.
