Great work going on here!

I feel really sorry for you guys having to do so much welding to sort out the rust. The worst Ive had to do is patch the driverside footwell, where it meets the inner wing.

But I must say its looking really good !

I spun the car round the other day to get on with the drivers side sill(s), then rembered it was cold and gave that up as a bad idea. So, I've decided to do the front instead.

So I dug out the escort head lights and the triumph grille.




Neither are a perfect fit for each other or the car, so before I got the hammers out I turned to eMachineShop and their free drawing software.



With a little triming and welding the grille is good. The head light panels need a couple of notches out of each side and then the lights will go straight on. Should look pretty good when it's done.

thought about square wood&pickette style headlights?

There was a W&P grille for sale rescently, bloke wanted £150 for it. Besides, I doubt anybody has done it quite like this before.

I think so. I've seen a few done with 2 sets of mini lights and a chopped up standard grille, but imo that doesn't look right. I also saw one with 3 series bmw lights, but they had to be chopped about to fit. The escort ones will virtually go straight on.

Are they standard 7" lights or the smaller (5" I think) ones. I have a set of the smaller ones from a Dolomite Sprint I scrapped so it's given me ideas.....

They are about 6", from a MK 2 escort RS2000. They have a flat back plate which with a little trimming of the light panel for the adjusters will sit flat against the clubman front. The inner light sits further forward than the outer so is perfect for the curve of the front panel/bonnet.

That said, don't be copying my idea

The Dolomite Sprint mounting plates have the inner ones slightly further forward too.

I'll have to go a dig them out of my shed, I'm sure they are only 5".

And imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (so they say) !!!!

The triumph grille was a lucky ebay find, getting something for your lights could be a challenge.
