I asked this question some time ago on anther forun, and the genersal concus was that it was a bad idea unless you have a welded in rollcage since the bins connect the b post (? i think its b, the door shut!) to the floor. that said, i have seen it done, so i would also be interested to hgear other peoples thoughts.

rear seat is fine, well at least the front of the base is. the rear bulkhead is a big no-no!! there is a huge thread somewhere on this site about that.

nutter- you are correct, the rear bins do indeed connect the inner sills and the B post together.

A=front of door, B=rear of door C=rear most pillar.

Most people who cut the bins out do it because they are fitting a cage, if you pull all the cardboard and crap out of the bin, underneath you will find the inner sill which is not sealed from the outside world, it is open to the outer sill and hence the outside world.

I had to remove the bins for the strengthening I put on the Sills for the roof removal but strengthened up the A and B pillars to stop things moving using big box section (35mm square) welded to the sill beams, I then also braced from left to right across the top of the rear seats and triangulated from each side of the top of the rear seat down the the bottom of the B post strengtheners.

In short - yes, it can be done but you will need to re-enforce.

Ahh rite ok i'l proberly jus take the front of the rear seat out and leave the bins in then.

Its just i'm not gonna bother with anyone in the back so thought if it was easy i'l take the bins out lol.
Maybe a job for the future :)

Cheers

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I got rid of the bins and rear seat, took about 30mins with an angle grinder. omce you get going its really easy to see whats what. just start by cutting away and leaving about an inch then you can see where they attach easy enough. i then made a plate to go from the B pillar to the sill and i have a 6 point FIA bolt in cage. its still very stiff.

Yer could be handy to store beer!! :)

Il have to leave them in then, can't put a roll cage in as its a sprint type shell slopes down at the back . Unless i get a custom one made could be expensive :( for now il take the easy route and leave them in.
