I cant get the rivet gun in close enough due to the hole being shrouded by the rets of the arch?

i thought about making an extension tube for the rivet gun to give it a long thin 'nose', but then the rivets arent long enough for the gun to 'bite'...

ive seen somewhere rivets with long tails on, but looking on the net I can find them or what theyre called?

Can anyone help me out? or suggest an alternative method? i want to keep it looking std.

Cheers

Joe

Rivnuts? fit the ruvnut and then screw the arches on. much simpler and wont rust like using normal screws

Look for a different rivet gun, some have a thinner tapered nose that allows you to get in.

I modified my rivet gun so it could get in tighter to the arch by grinding the side a bit

Ive had a good hunt locally and on the net for long nosed guns, ive got the lazy tong type and the hand gun type, but both are way to stubby

will look at teh rivnut option, see if I can get some nice set screws so it looks traditional rather than modern allen heads..

Don't rivet on as it is sometimes useful to be able to remove your arches as Matty will testify when we set his car up there was not enough clearance to fit the targets with arches in place

I have a really thin ended Gesipa set of rivet pliers. Never had any probs getting into spaces and i do quite a lot of glued and riveted honeycomb work on racecars.

would aluminium rivnuts react with the steel bodyshell?

nic, not a massive fan of self tappers as they inevitably will break through a layer of paint, and leave bare metal exposed, living on an island near the sea, at night i can actually hear cars outside slowly rusting away!!

im so paranoid about rust coming back on this car, after the grief the restoration has caused me, i genuine dont think i could take it!!

righto, gonna use m3 countersunk rivnuts, so the arches sit flush on the body, preferably stainless, but ill use ali ones if need be

anyone know where i can get these from?

nfauto/cbs sell them, but they want £16.00 postage to the island for a packet of 40, so fuck them.

edit: btw ive already searched under nutsert, rivnut, sheetnut etc with no luck
