Im about to start making some side mounts for my seats and ive got some 2.5mm aluminium sheet kicking around, does anyone know if this would be strong enough or is it a little on the thin side? *oh well*

What the thinest steel and thinest aluminium do you think you can get away with?

Cheers
Matt

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I've got a pair of side-mounts in my garage if you want them mate.

Only for 1 seat, though.

I have two pair of steel side mounts doing nothing, but weigh a tonne *tongue* *wink*

Difficult to get the seat in the right place though in a mini

Yes that does sound a little on the thin side! I'd go with colins recommendation on thicknesses. Its the one area i wouldn't scrimp on as i have seen seats collapse in rally cars when people tried that.

Remember that in a say a 30G accident your body will weight 30 times as much and thats all pulling on the belts and some feeding through into the seat and mounts.

I had a mini seat collapse on me once when a guy ran up my back end whilst i was parked up. I nearly came out the back window

Any chance you could measure the distance from the bottom of the mount to the top hole? Im not 100% standard mounts will work as my seat will overhang the crossmemeber slightly?

How much would you want for it anyway mate?

Cheers for the opinions, I thought I may be a tad on the tin side! *hehe!*

The steel will be approx 75% heavier, depending on the grade of alloy used
