As abouve what is the standard Abbreviation I have always took it as HR I hnow E is used for Standard penetration but a fello engineer is adamant that the Abbreviation is RC ? On 17th Feb, 2009 Rob H said:

If my memory serves there are two different tests that give Rockwell hardness, HR(B) and HR©. I think one is a pointed thing dropped to thesurface to be tested, the other is a ball bearing or something similar, you then measure the indent left.

i think toms right, i know most knife manufactures quote rc for hardness "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

Looking over my college work it all depends on the test method. We used a 120 degree diamond cone in our tests at college and the units were HRC. But the general denotation was HR then the letter was added afterwards. It also depends on the forces used in the test. |
