My new laptop has come this morning so I'm in the process of setting it up.

On my old (just about still working) laptop I have lots of emails in folders and inbox with useful info etc in, how can I move these to my new machine? I'm sure there must be a way, but I don't know how..........

file-import and export, then save what you want, then import the file on the other computer

It should all be in a .pst file somewhere on you old laptop.

Assuming it's on an XP machine, as above, it's the *.pst file you need (usually outlook.pst) It's normally somewhere in your personal folders or profile.

Just copy it in its entirety to the same location as it is on the new PC (ie, overwrite the new one). Do this before you receive any mail.....

Make a copy as well, they can get corrupted and there is a hidden repair tool for if they do.

Hmm, not a good start, it can't find anything *.pst, and when choosing File>Export it comes up with an error! Bloody machines!

Mike where can I start Import/Export wizard from?

In Outlook you go to File then Import & Export.

Mike's guide pretty much covers the rest.

Very possibly - it is a really cut-down version of Outlook, I haven't used it for years so, sorry, I can't help any more :(

Force Racing ICT Dept Manager Miglia Turbo Am frum Yokshyer tha noes!

Go to Control Panel
Mail
Data Files Tab
And you can open the folder from there

There should be a pst/ost file in there.

If not go to

C:docs and settings
(your Profile)
Local Settings
Application Data
Microsoft
Outlook Express
Files should be here.

Copy this to the same place on your new laptop

Once you have the Outlook Express data files on a memory stick or CD You can import from an outlook express data store instead of copying all the files into place.

Is your new laptop XP or Vista?

Oh FFS!

Tried looking in control panel as per Mikes info, there isn't a mail icon.

Went through folders as per next idea, got right the way down thinking "here we go" only to find that there isn't an Outlook Express folder there. Damn thing.

is it exchange mail or even smtp or something like that that does not really save the mails on the computer itself?

I think mike got the path wrong. should be something more like this.

C drive
Documents and Settings
yourname
Local Settings
Application Data
Identities
{FCE0492D-C3A2-448C-AE73-772DEDC1FCF3} (may be different)
Microsoft
Outlook Express

in here you will have .dbx files and maybe a few others. stick all these a folder on your memory stick.

then on your new vista machine go into
Windows Mail (replacement for outlook express)

go to file, import, messages, outlook express 6, import mail from an oe6 store directory, browse to the location of the .dbx files and then follow your nose.

MMMM, looks good, seems to be a file for each of my Outlook folders, I'll copy these across as per your info and see how I go! Thanks.
