After a bit of advice on tires, basically I've got to renew the tires on the Volvo in the new year and I've got know idea what to go for, basically I want a general purpose tire which is good in all UK weather conditions reasonably well wearing, ideally good economy (although I'm skeptical how much extra economy you can get from different tires) any recommendations?

So far I've ruled out the following:

ABC10s - won't last very long
32Rs - won't last very long
A008s - don't like them

and that's all the tires I know.

Hi, i have found Toyo Proxes to work well in all conditions, last a while but offer good grip, no idea on the road resistance though.

I'm using Falkens on my Focus. The later 912s are cheap and seem to be wearing slowly.

on my every day cars i've tried loads

yok's and toyos do grip in the dry, alright in the wet, cheap but dont last

goodyear, pirrelli are so so

Dunlop were horrid, absolute ditch finders in the wet

i go for continental, by far the best in the wet that i have tried, dont aquaplane, grip better than the rest off the mark in the wet, and really do last well

I've got Dunlops on mine; seam to get pretty good wear out of them - the current ones have around 24k on them and still got a bit to go yet. They perform ok but I can get the back end to step out on roundabouts at times - not sure if this is down to spilt fuel of the tyres though

On the Laguna, it was originaly fitted with Michelins which lasted 33k miles, They then fitted Coninental which went for 40K, they have then replaced those with Contis again.

Thats with a boot jam packed full of gear, so much you cannot get anything else in there, the coil springs are fitted with those rubber assisters. I dont think you can complain at 40k for a set of tyres used like that *wink* Granted I dont pay for my tyres *hehe!*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I quite like avon zv3

They are a mid range tyre, seem to last well and give plenty of grip on my parents volvo and my sierra

Goodyear Eagle NCT5 get my vote, they have now been superceeded by the "Excellence" which my mate has bought a pair of and says they are just as good if not better than the NCT5's. I have NCT5's on my Audi.

Got some firestones on my daily driver.

They were fitted from new, the rear ones are the ones fitted from the factory. about 3/4 worn after 56,000miles. They seem to be a good all round tyre grip wise.

Fronts wore out about 30,000 but this is to be expected on a FWD car.

I use Bridgestone RE050s, graet tyre.

The BF goodrich Profilersomething or other is a great tyre, but dosen't wear too well.

Ive had toyo t1r's on quite a few cars, got egal f1's on the porka but if your after a good tyre that doesnt cost the earth ive had hankook's on most of my cheaper cars.
Mainly as we do work for hyundi and i get them cheap but ive been very suprised how good they are in all conditions.

A very good recomendation from me.

Toyo Proxes for me on my current "daily" - since I first used them, I would never go back to anything else on that car.

Their wear rate is fairly poor but grip in the wet is very good, and totally predictable.

It's a shame they don't make them in 10".

i personally think that quality tyres last longer on a tow car, i shredded falkens and some other shit brands befor getting a set of pilots really with good grip and wear
