how much should i be looking at paying for a basic rebuild? piston ring has gone and one of the bores is pretty rough

If you are doing nothing yourself, ie if you are paying for someone else to take the engine out and put it back in as well as the rebuild, I would say a lot more than £400.

Also, if the bore is rough, ie, badly worn or scored, then you are talking about a re-bore and new (oversize) pistons as well as the basic rebuild costs.

As per Phil, do it yourself, there's only one way to get the knowledge/confidence...

Or at least take the engine out yourself.

when you take it apart, take lots and lots and lots of photos.

write lots of notes aswell!

Have a stab at a rebuild, I did in the summer and the engine I've produced goes very well. I would/will be doing it again.:)

oh i ment that i cant do the reboring ect... the engine is out and the head is off ect... ive already taken it out and put it back in twice due to original converstion being tatty...

jsut the engine is foookoed and could do with a rebuild, rebore and some fancys little bits lol

ive had a pm from benross and it looks good :) im off to pm tom booth now :)
