I have the rally ones from minispares Red dot?),

they are pretty good, stiff but not too harsh. certainly more compliant than the originals i took out.

Hmmm i fear that my front ones have collapsed from what they look like. Were they that bad for you? I havent had a bad experience from them, but saying that I was running them when I was using coilovers lol so I guess I'm still to find out.

coilovers and cones?...lazy git *laughing*
well im looking for alot less body role than my clubby has and for it to hold the road as good as possible without coilovers, the mini they will be going in was propped up on its bump stops it had no body role and about an inch of suspension travel *hehe!* , i did over 30k miles with it like that too lol im going to town on the suspension and brakes so i might as well have new cones (it needs 2 anyway) there is a huge difference in the mini spares harder cones and the mini sport harder, just wonsdered if the mini sport ones were good or not*happy*

Have you thought about the spring replacment kit? might be better than cones?
A few people rave about it,

yeah i have heard about them but tbh i cant see how a spring that only compresses an inch or so be too great at absorbing bumps,
i have not heard about them being slated or praised so im not willing to find out for my self*happy*

When I rebuilt my car last year, I bought some hi-lo's, shoved a new set of cones on the front, left the old ones on the back and bought a set of lowered spax adjustable shocks.

I havent noticed any roll at all, even going round roundabouts at silly speeds. if you rock it on the ground the only give is in the tyres! this is only with 12/20 clicks on the front and 8/20 clicks on
the back.

The ride is very firm but not to harsh.

This doesn't answer the orignal question but there you go!

Yeah, genuine cones. Pricy but seem to do the job.

well i have been searching around and from what i can make out, of the cone replacement springs the red one (fast road) is firmer than the std cone and absorbs bumps better but has alot more body roll, the blue ones are softer and the race ones are dangerous on the road *happy* *hehe!*
soo it looks like the rubber cones it will definitely be then *Yes*

I think that the standard doughnuts are very good for road use. They softened them in the early '90s, and these aren't as good IMO.

Red dots are quite close to the standard original firmness iirc and will be suitable for slightly firmer road use.

As soon as you get on a track though, it'll feel really wallowly on the standard ones.

Thought I'd update this now, since my last post on this thread.

After my trip up to london I found the point at which std donuts really roll quite a lot, one of those 270 degree sweeping corners onto motorways taken at somewhere around 70.

Took my pre 64 dry cones off (harder rubber) and found they had "shaped" like they do, not collapsed, just got "that shape". Put new ones on, had to wind my hilos right down for a still-high ride. Got fed up with waiting for it to settle more and put the old ones back on. I prefer the harder ride.

I'm not sure of the innocenti shaped cones, but then again, looking at the landing area of the hilos/normal cones and seeing how this gives a slightly non-linear response, I prefer to run flat spring lands for more of an exponential stiffness. It isn't hard like it's been welded up, but has limited movement, which I want. I also want it to be able to chuck it into a corner and get the suspension on it's "stop".

My opinion of least desirability to start with. (Boggy first.)

1. New Std Cones/Unmodded Hilos/Std Trumpets.

2/3 Innocenti pattern cones/Unmodded Hilos/etc or Std Cones, Modded Hilos.

4. Innocenti Cones/Modded hilos

ie:- Hilo was like _/ where cone sits but is modded to _| so as the spring compresses, you don't get a flattening off of the rate.... bear in mind that the compressive resistance increases exponentially with distance of compression.

Anyway, that's the way I've set it up.

It's harder than Ron Jeremy on 2 packets of viagra.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.
