My garage has a wired alarm system, looks like a cheaper house system from Wickes or B&Q, two movement sensors, and contacts on the windows and the doors. You could probably get one similar for not much more than you'll be paying for one like the link?

Hard wired for me too - garage and workshop/shed are two seperate zones on the main house alarm - so are protected whenever we're out and are also covered on the house "night" setting.

The only thing with me - a personal preference - is no movement detectors (neither PIR or US), just contacts on doors, windows and (for garage only) foil tape on the window glass.

In my experience the movement detectors give too many false alarms, and the one thing an alarm system requires, especially in a rural area, is credibility - otherwise, like most car alarms, it will be ignored.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

as rod says with the movement detectors, they can give false's.

we had some in the ware house at work that aparently were getting set of by spiders.

Hmm, good point on the movement detectors.

No windows to worry about, just a personel door and a roller shutter door on the front. I will have a look at how a switch would fit on the roller shutter door.

Thanks :)

if you want a PIR in the garage get a dual tech, as the others have said wired is the way forward

if you want a quality budget alarm look at the veritas panels (now accenta) http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Ala...s_Remote_Keypad

if your bel box is low then get a double skinned one this will stop people drilling and foaming the box and/or get a siren in the garage, for about £100 total you can get some decent kit

i might even have a dual tech in my stash

dont have a garage alarm, but the mini is insured on the house insurance :) got a button press garage door and my car parked right infront of it most of the time so you cant really get in w/o cutting the door off. plus no good stuff is in there anymore :)
