is it possible to change the turbo unit with the engine in the car?

i have a spare turbo which has no play in it which i want to try out to maybe see if the turbo on the car now is the cause of lots of smoke on pullaway!

i was looking earlier it just seems that the oil return pipe is going to be a bugger!

also this spare turbo has been unused for a long time, is it likely that the seals could have gone brittle or cracked?

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

they're carbon seals so should be fine. can be done with the engine in the car, can be awkward. oil drain is best reached from underneath.

doh! stupid me, i was thinking that the seals would be like the usual rubber ones!
makes sense now i think about it! dont think rubber ones would be able to handle that sort of heat!!!

an extra long screw driver will help you do up the clips on the drain pipe from the top, that's another way to do it, but like iain says most do it from under the car, but i don't like getting muddy on the floor.

Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph
