Here are some pics of the new project. It is a 1970 that will be my racer. it looks slightly worse than it is, but will clean up nicely when blasted later.

It will sport a full climbing frame(miglia cage).

I will try to weigh all the stuff taken off at a later date aswell, as I need to get some scales first.

Some of the cuts need to be cleaned up, but thats no hurry, better to do that before paint really...

oh, and I forgot. It will have a carbon fibre roof panel, and the rear is already cut out ready for a carbon boot floor.

I took the rear seat out of my autotest car completely - people warned of getting a floppy back end but to be honest there is no sign of it.

My boot floor and rear seat pan also went - cut all the way round about 1" in from the side and then bonded a thin aluminium sheet in. I have a leightweight steel box section brace between the the bottom of each rear turret another between the tops and I think one across the very back of the boot. Much cheaper than a carbon boot floor - cost me about £30!!

i was about to say with the cage thats going in (assuming you are tieing it into the body in a fair few places as my plans are) then the rear bulkhead should be able to go. then you can knock up a lightweight firewall for the tank?

something to think about once the cage is in.

well.

I have done a bit on this.











I have also started fabrication of the rear suspension.

I will fit the rear radius arms directly to the healboard, so I have made my own. (sorry about the bad pic)



I have also gotten these from Carl:



The total weight of the rear suspension (excluding the coil overs which I do not own yet, but including brakes) will be around 8-8.5 kg

it wasnt the easiest thing, and they might not be strong enough yet, but they weigh 1.8 kg. KAD alloy ones are around 2.7 and Specialist-components ones are about 1.8 kg aswell.

Ah ok, so are you going to double skin the heel board or anything at all where they mount, or is it strong enough standard?

Im really tempted to give it a go making some rad arms, if its possibe to ditch the heel board bit all together I could be a little more generous with wall thickness on the arms. :)

If you don't mind me asking what material/wall thickness did you use?

I seriously think there are better people on here discussing this with, but the cage I am probably going to use is closely tied in with the healbord. The tubing I used is OD 26.9 mm ID 22.3 mm seamless of course. Proper material aswell, better than the cage material specs given by FIA. Remember, I have not tested this yet, so it might not be strong enough...

well there will be updates here now.

I visited UK last week, and picked up a lot of parts.

Also I have lightened the front subframe (which I may have posted a pic of on here before)


picked up some wheels from Carl:





I then mocked up what I have of the rear suspension, just to see how it looked:



I am of course missing some obvious parts here still. An upper suspension arm from Carl can also be seen :)

I delivered the car for blasting on Monday, and am getting it back on Saturday. I will then acid etch it and do some last rust repairs before fitting the cage and start working on getting the "plastic" parts to fit.

all my carbon and fibreglass stuff except for the bumpers are from ABS.

ABS were very pleasant to deal with, and they bought stuff in from Curley for me (my doors, dash, bootfloor, roof and arches are from Curley), while the front end and bootlid is made by ABS themselves.

I cut out the holes behind the grille, holes for lights and drilled holes for the bumper today, dusty stuff!

it has A panels attached yes.

I am pleased with the quality TBH, its not perfect, but not too bad either! It has not been close to the shell yet mind!

If you order one, remember to ask them to make sure the bonnet fits. If you dont its slightly tight in between the wings. He will tell you about it though.

They are prepping a new mould because of it, but its no problem if you get them to fix it.
