hmmm, its probably fine, but have you thoroughly thought through mounting the rear arms directly onto the shell?

are the mounting points tied to the cage at all?

Phat arches Andre!!

are you going to add any shear plates to your rear arms? - there isn't much "Z" (X,Y being lateral and longditudinal) material to resist bending - if you can see what I mean - pure lateral force I think they'll be ok, introduce reaction force from the tyre contact patch to the mounting points and the reaction force by the damper assy - introduces a lot of twist to the rear arms - one of the reasons the SC arms are 2 inches thick in 7075 ally! It would be easy enough to make a rigid jig to bolt them to with a reaction point replicating the centre of the tyre contact patch as a fulcrum, then dti the arm and add weight to the damper pivot to see how it deflects?

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

The mounts will be closely tied with the cage. as you have the same cage as I do (I think?) you may remember that it ties in with the outer mounts from factory, and also have 4 tubes going to the tunnel in the middle. These will be tied to the inner mounts of the cage aswell as to the middle of the healboard.

Johnk:

Thanks a lot for very constructive feedback! I will try to look more into it and do those measurements. Any ideas on how they could be made stronger in that direction?

BTW here is a graph that shows the camber and toe vs suspension travel.

travel in mm as X axis, and toe in in mm and camber in degrees at the Y axis.

Wow, so you went for semi-trailing after all.

Great stuff. You don't know how it will work until you try it.

Bugger all toe change for a useful bit of camber change.

yes I did. forgot to state that the toe change in mm there is at the edge of a 10" rim, but still the toe change is not much compared to the camber change.

As a response to John's concern, and his recommendations on what to do the arms are now like this:

A whole lot stronger :)

They weight 2503 gram, which I think is decent bearing in mind they are made to work without a beam or subbie
