When I start my Peugeot 205 in the mornings the idle speed is up & down like a yoyo! One minute 900 rpm, the next its near 2000!
Possible airflow meter problem???

Not sure what you mean sturgeo, but if Tom has a 205, a second opinion would be great.

I chased minor air leaks in the pipework on a 205GTI for weeks, giving the same sort of symptoms,as well as hesitation on pickup and stalling, all intermittently.Best of luck in tracing the prob !!

Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.
Baldrick: Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?
Blackadder: Yes it is.
Baldrick: Hmm... that's cunning.

I can help you with French translation. However there is no stepper motor on 205 GTI. There is no idle control at all LOL, except for the cold start.
That could be the flow meter, idle position sensor, a leak or the cold start stuff.
BTW, this L-Jetro injection is a crap :) . It's the same as on old Fiat TC, Alfa, BMW and so on. And the same eternal problems.
Could you tell more about the patient. Does it yoyo all the time or while cold ?
Is it really changing RPM every minute or faster ?
I'm not a Peugeot expert (I don't like french cars) so could you confirm me that you don't have cat and it's a L-Jetro (and not Motronic) injection with a vacuum ignition advance.

My 205 starts up from cold and settles to a 1300rpm idle, then settles down to a steady 950rpm when hot.
