Hi,

I am bringing a 92' 1275 back to life with a 998.

998 is gonna get a turbo quite soon as I have only a few bits missing : EDIS, Megasquirt and have to decide on the header.

Trouble is I just noticed today while working on the car that the gear selector on the gearbox is far too out of the casing.

This is probably due to an incident where the car rolled over the trailer while I was loading it (don't ask, almost a Darwin Award ...)

In this incident the gear selector axxle might have been pulled out of the gearbox and whatever bracket, circlip or whatever bolt holds it in place deep down in the gearbox might have collapsed ...

Question to you guys :
This is gonna be a full gearbox rebuilt or at least strip down, right ?

Thanks in advance

For the selector issue ists gonna be a strip down so you can inspect the forks and see what damage if any is there. Depending on what you find you just dont know how far your going to go.

Ok, been looking for an engine but I now am not quite sure which is the most economic scenario.

Based on your experience, how much money do you reckon I have to put on the table to rebuild my box (to standard spec) ?

My concern is all the engine I seem to find, you are never sure they will run OK (and it is France, we are all crooks ...)

Well, thanks for the link.

The idea is more to rebuild it myself, getting the parts from Minispares or the like and advice from here because postage costs are likely to be near the price of a good looking complete Mini ...

(I got quote from 200 euros to 400 to bring an engine from 200 miles in the south to Paris !!!)

apbellamy and myself are competing in a banger rally in april this year which has it's first overnight stop in Paris. If you were to purchase something large/heavy from the UK perhaps we could drop it you off for a modest fee? (providing it will fit in our car!)

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

As it happens... me and MiniMadMotorman will be traveling through Paris in early April in a van. So there's the possibility that the TurboMinis delivery service could go inernational....

3:44:1 actually. Doh!

However we have set ourselves a max cruise speed limit of 4000rpm which is 70mph on out wheel/tyre combo.

uranus

thats ok , 4001 rpm is when you get time space distortion and certain orifices in your body change function ,and your ears start to bleed.

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

Thanks Apbellamy an Minimadmotorman, I'll keep the idea in mind.

But I would really appreciate to get an advice on price.

Any gearbox expert to give me a ball park for the gearbox rebuild costs in parts alone ?

John Guess (linked above) is a really good bloke. Always friendly and helpfull when ever I ask him stupid questions.

Have a look at his website. you can spec you're box up and get a price there and then.

Like we say, if you sort it out with him, we're more than happy to get you the box to Paris.
