I've got one of these for when I get round to it:

http://www.autosparks.co.uk/product_info.p...roducts_id=1773

They also do an 13 pin version:

http://www.autosparks.co.uk/product_info.p...roducts_id=1774

They look pretty good and should be water tight

just make sure that you check the voltage ratings for the plug for the head lamps etc. i was going to use a Speakon or cannon plug. if it was the latter it would have been a cannon plug per side of the car.

Speakons are rated quite high, especially for the stage type speakers which draw alot of current. they are quite a sleek plug too so would look bling as fek !

We used these on the missus' car:

Can't fault it really - good solid connection, 8 way, and quite small for what it is.

I used Bosch 4 pin connectors. They type of things you would see on MK3 Golfs etc. They are crap though. I used the proper cripm to put the terminals on but 2 came off. Also, the pins have a habbit of pulling out of the casing.I think I will be using the ones Demon Tweeks sell on my new loom

I used block connectors I got from RS not overly sophisticated for the main loom. For the light connectors and indicator connectors I have swwiched to "Deans Connectors" These are gold plated and cost a couple of quid.

You can get them from any good modle shop, when I get round to it ill be replacing all of my light connections with Deans connectors

For my main loom I am going to switch to Amphenol, there is a white mini in either this months or last months mini mag or mini world with a flip fron and one of these fitted to the passenger side of the cross member. These are not cheap but again they use goldplated connectors, are water proof, can take a very high current draw but most importantly they look the nuts.

I can't believe you're all using trailer plugs, you might as well chuck some bricks in the boot the amount they weigh, get a proper multi way plug from AutoSpark or Vehicle wiring products.

Army plugs are best, mount a socket to the car and have a plug feeding the front i had loads of problems finding for Vtec but if you look on some car supply pages for kit cars you will find what you need. all sorts of goodies

Have a look at the ones I linked to above. they weigh next to nothing and are water proof.

right, so pics please, and where did you mount them?

im thinking of a trailer socket mounted on the remainder of the inner wing where the wiper motor usually is, so when i start to pull the front end off, i can reach in, disconnect, and then voila

or do you guys locate the connectors where you can disconnect witht he front on, then just take he front end all the way off in one step (id prefer this tbh, but cant think of a tidy way to do it?)

reason im looking at trailer sockets is:
1. i have loads knocking about
2) i have some heavy duty trailer wire which will happy manage the current
3) im a cheap bastard
4) looked at some of those linked connectors, and noticed some are only rated at 6A per terminal, so wouldnt really trust it for main beam, or as a common earth?

exactly how mine was joey, had the socket fixed to the bulkhead just to the left of the master cylinders. unplugged it as i lifted the front then took the whole thing off.

Will do it differently on my next one but thats just because i'll have a 2 piece front cos the single piece was an absolute pain in the cock.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Mines on the drivers side, in whats left of the inner wing behind the cross member. I can reach it easily with the bonnet off.

my trailer socket is mounted on the fresh air vent hole (which has been welded over) on the n/s.

i also fibreglassed a metal bar across the front end with bolts welded on to use as a common earth point. rather than use a lot of earth wires.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.
