I bought, some time ago, a detacheable tow bar adapter for my T5 off eBay.com

I went to hitch it up to my bike trailer tonight, and the sodding ball seems marginally too big, only a fraction of a mm or so, just enough to prevent it locking on...

I tried it on several other trailer hitches and the same result...

Do the yanks use a bigger tow hitch to us?

If so, I bet they think its really big and clever eh?

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Bin it and Buy a gold type aproved one, depending on your car, that is what you should have. anything later than 1996 should be type aproved

Edit, just clicked that you said it is detachable. For a Volvo T5 it should be metric 50mm.

ill get the calipers on it tomorrow

I bought from the US though sprock, so it might be a model to fit their slightly larger hitches maybe?

ill try chipping off the plasticote finish if I get desperate, nothing seems to be going easy this week....

Yes, my mate had a Jeep Wrangler a couple of years ago and wanted an authentic Jeep "chrome" towball so ordered it from the USA....

When he showed it to me and (only then) told me he'd bought it from the USA, I said ".... it's not going to look quite as good once you've filed all that chrome off......"

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

There should be no finish to the towball, it should be cleaned up back to bare metal and then lightly greased - unless using a stabiliser system that 'grips' the ball which require the ball to be clean and dry.

If there is a plasticote finish it would wear off in use and then the coupling would become loose.
