From what i can work out this is what class i will have to be in due to the composite roof, please correct me if i am wrong.

This class has a limit of 2000cc cars so there gonna be pretty quick.

So i need to start spec-ing up a suitable engine. With a turbo'd 1380 that would class it as 1932cc, so is this the way to goto make the power required?

As you can tell i'm pretty new to this, will be speaking to a few engine builders in the next few weeks, but wanted to hear your oppinions first.

Thanks Guys, Tom

If you have a composite roof then you it will be sports libra. Also anything greater than a 1000cc turbo will also put you in sports libra. Unfortunately this is a catch all class so it can be anything, single seaters, kit cars, space frames, etc. Being competitive in a mini will not be easy.

It is all about having fun though so give it a go.

Is any specialist equipment required to have a go in this class? I don't have a cage in the car at the moment (well I don't have much in the car at the moment!) and there may not be one going in, but I'd like to have a go at something like this.

Ok so sports libra it is then, from what i can tell there are no engine restrictions??

Rick that sounds like a good bit of fun at least we'd be able to compare againsts each other.

Still only at the planning stage for what championships to compete in as i can't really work out what i'm elligable for.

No offence at all Mark, i stick my hands up and admit i'm completely baffeled by all the rules and regulations.

The other question which i'm not 100% sure about is, in the sports libra i'm thinking the new fuel sampling regulation applies, so i'll need a dry break coupling?

Coupe, from what i have worked out sofar you can run anything from a standard road car up to a full out racer. Obviously helmets and overals are required and to a certain standard.

The blue book is totally thickle, your best option is to join you local motorclub and start talking to people about what they're running and what you're building, also as most sprints are closed to the public (mostly due to the cost of public liability insurance) you might want to volunteer to do a bit of marshalling, a good way to get your foot in the door so to speak.

If you haven't already have a look here:
http://www.hillclimbandsprint.co.uk/home.asp

There is a good beginners section: http://www.hillclimbandsprint.co.uk/allabout.htm

One more thing on sports libra, I recall if it is over 2000cc you need an A license, so be carful if you are a beginner on a B license. Also I think you will need a cage so coupe I think you will need a cage as I can't see another class that you fit into.

Rob H, what sprints do you go to? The only one closed to the public that I know is MIRA and that is for totally different reasons.

edit, you won't need a dry break coupling unless you have injection.

It's the little ones on airfields where they don't seem to let the public in, Colern springs to mind.

All ours (apart from already mentioned MIRA) are open to the public. Here is a list of events and classes. Pop along to a couple and see what you think.

Cool thanks for all the advice. Will certainly be checking out a few events.

Have already enquired about marsheling, but at the moment its not really possible due to working most weekends.

The sports libre class around here has a Maguire Spaceframe mini which is very competetive, a fiat twincam Minor Turbo, which is faster than most. Sports Libre is the most interesting class, sadly, there are things like Mallocks, which make it almost pointless competing. They should be in Single Seaters.....

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

Unfortunately it is a catch all and will never be a competitive class. it all comes down to the major rule of building a race car. Don't build the car you want, first find a competition you like and build a car to their rules. Otherwise you end up with a car and no one to race against.

Talk like that is no good without pictures?

Ben , any chance of a link to regs for the class, ive got a 2006 blue book but carnt find anything specific.

Will mentioned a road class? id like to no things like what extinguisher do i need, and if things like that vary depending on road class,or race?

It really depends on what championship you race in. Our class structure is like this: http://www.hillclimbandsprint.co.uk/calendar.htm so you would end up in class F. In the blue book you need to look at section 'I', in there is a section on sports libra. Once I get my 2009 book I can post you my 2008 book with a few sections highlighted. You will need a roll cage and harnesses, but not an extinguisher.
