just few quiries

i have just checked through 'search' but i must be putting in the wrong words because i am not getting any answers

what horsepower does the DON run???
(i dont think this should be in this catergory but it saves opening another topic)

whats a good, nice, but safe amount of boost for a standard metro turbo engine, running a intercooler with the finned section measuring about 350x100x150mm??? also what sort of power would i be expecting (after a good needle tweak on the rollers)???

i was told there was once a metro at a friends old place of work running 156bhp on the rollers (unsure weather wp or flywheel power) and the only mod was montego turbo jet and needle and of course and interbreeder

thank you in advance
jack

Tom posted an extract from a dyno sheet showing 220 once but I've a hunch that it's capable of more given the turbo choice.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

standard turbo with intercooler you dont wand to be going over 120 bhp
the drop gears clutch and box wont take it for long and thats about 11 to 12 pounds of boost ...ish

ive been told to run about half a bar as a safe amount on a good condition std metro engine, i wil be running 7 psi to get everything sorted and iron out any niggles in the setup then i will build my other engine up to a much better spec.

change waste gate for Turbo and it will make more sense.

technically, (just to piss you off tom !) i had wastegate 'chatter'

i bought a recon turo off ebay, and the actuator was set miles too loose, leaving the wastegate a midges dick open, and under no tension.

when i first started it up, i though the turbo was fucked, but fortunately a tweak here and there and violla.

but the sig is still hugely misguided, youve got to love a good dump!

i had a word with a lad at work and it said the noise i am thinking of (which i first heard on his 620ti) is the throttle butterfly 'chattering' as the throttle is closed, after the turbo is nearing max boost

probably wrong again, but this is what i was told, any body shed some light???

right. when you close the throttle from being on boost the air then hits the butterfly. correct.

it is not however the butterfly chattering. this air then has nowhere to go so it goes back down the charge piping straight into the spinning turbo.

this back flow of air then stalls the turbo.

it is this that gives you the noise. i am not sure if its the noise of the compressor wheel slowing suddenly or if its the blades of the wheel cutting through the air that is traveling through the wrong way.

it is however (deemed to be) bad for turbo life at high boost levels and this is the reason for dump valves being installed.
