Attack them with a hacksaw, then use a screwdriver!!!
I replace with normal ones, robbed from a nat-asp carb!

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Throttle spindle bearings are easy mate, you should of done them while you were there! just need the right sized bit of bar and they tap in and out.

Take it that it arrived A ok?

Fairly comprehensive kits and seem to do the job. Hope you clean all the casings nicel while they were apart! *smiley*

Its not that bad to do really. Bit fiddley but not that bad. Just lay out all the bits the order they came off and you'll be fine.

May as well do it, only moving part so its the only bit that would be worn, plus you have to take the springs off to change all the seals etc which is well worth doing.

watch the fire (Giallofly's mini) in the vids from the RR day and see if you need convincing to change the throttle seals...

ok .. I will do them tonight then !!!!!

the ring seal on the bottom of the carb was perished badly , will three splits in it

Guess that was what my smoke was coming up from under the carb !!!

Also the Manifold gasket was knackered as well so I am hoping that was my uneven idling and (possible)leaning out problem

so all looking good !!

Oh one other thing the rebuild kit says that butterfly has a bevelled edge .... I couldnt see it ... am i going mad ?

Oh one more ..... why has the rebuild kit not got a poppet valve in the butterfly and y is it better not to have one ?

oh one more .... have a good day !

Not sure on the bevelled edge bit

But the poppet valve is supposed to be there I believe to prevent excessive boost build up when you close the throttle? But if you have a dump valve fitted or the std overboost valve working ok then it should not matter that you do not have this. and also the poppet valve is a HUGE restriction to airflow passed the butterfly so you are better off without it!

The butterfly edges are not at 90degres to the round face. It has to be fitted the right way up therefore!
Look closely at the edge on the standard poppet butterfly, and fit the solid one the same orientation.
Get rid of the solid one whatever you do. Poor tickover, and sluggish DV operation are all problems with it after the spring becomes weak after a few years...
Check your float lid isn't badly warped - usually at the corners. I usually draw it over a large file to take a little of the warpage out - don't bother trying to get it perfectly flat - you'll be there all day!
Make sure you change the choke spindle seals aswell - a little steel wool will have the spindle running nice and smooth.

cheers guys

TD i looked until my eyes were popping out of there sockets and I could not see anything different about the edges on the butterfly !!

What would happen if it were in wrong ?

I think in the end the decision i took was to keep the stamp on the same face if you see what i mean

ie if the stamping on the bfly was the plemum side of the original butterfly then i fitted the new one the same !

If there seems little difference, so be it! Keepign the stamping in same orientation is as good as you'll get. Leave the screws loose, then flick the butterfly shut a few times to centralise the disc, then tighten the screws with the throttle disc shut.

btw - why no more alizee? If you find any decent vids send em my way!

i thought we got told off for our Avtars !!

I still dribble everytime I look at pictures of her ..... sigh .....

TD I was wondering ... now I have found some issues with my Carb AND the fact that my manifold gasket was shot( probably making things a bit lean ) ..

Do you think I should reconect by Carb balance pipe ? i have chopped it and blocked it

Or not ?

I'd block it off... Economy is not something our minis are known for, and it's not correctly calibrated once you have a different cam, compression, whatever anyway....
Just somethign else to go wrong.

b12 if you put the throttle disc in wrong you will know it, the edges are at an angle if its in the wrong way the throttle won't close properly and it will be quite clear just by looking, i put the disc in wrong on one of my hs carbs a while ago, and it was very obvious.

cheers dan I see it know .... the beveled edge is different on the top to the bottom , I guess its so it seat properly when its closed !!

Ok done it all know , all new seals everywhere

The seals on the ends of the throttle spindle are poped in followed by a white platic spacer ... now on my carb the only thing that totches the spacer is the spring

surely that cant be the only thing that hold the seal in is it ...

Carb <- Seal <- PlasticWasher <-Spring <-Metal end piece(for cable)

is it...??

all the seal that came outa my carn were hard so I guess its a job well done !
