Can anyone tell me if AN6 fittings are the same as JIC -6 fittings.

Just ordering up the fuel system for the Mig, but getting concerned about mixing standards.

Those -6 fittings are expensive, either Goodridge or Mocal. £8 for an inline and £15 for a 90 degree jobbie.

Anyone know of a cheaper way of holding 5 bar fuel pressure? I'm not going to risk jubilee clips or the like.

If you use decent EFI rated hose with pukka hose clamps you'll have no problem at 5bar.
By pukka hose clamps I mean the ones that have a proper thread, not the 'jubilee' style.

However, the most important thing is having a raised lip on the hose to prevent it pulling off, and putting the hose clip in the appropriate place (i.e. before the raised lip, not on it - LOL).

In the big picture, 5 bar acting on a 6mm, or even 8mm ID hose is barely tickling a hose clamp; 1 bar coolant pressure acting on a 40mm coolant hose is a greater risk if you think about it.

oh yes - those damn fittings are expensive!!! I used to get all my stuff from ThinkAuto if it helps.

that blue 'push on' oil/fuel hose can handle 18 bar Paul, looks tidy too

get the end swagged at somewhere like a hyrdraulic hose trade shop they'll never come off. try somewhere like pirtek.

On our prototype diesel engines we are running 40Bar+ iirc.

when we test new fuel systems each engine has to have a 20mm thick stainless plate enclosure covering the whole engine. on one of the engines that had a fuel leak, the enclosure looked like someone had punched a hole in a piece of tin foil LOL.

My sister looks like me but with long hair! so save that one for your wank bank i dare you!...

40 bar doesn't sound like much on a diesel???
Numbers up/over 1800bar seem to be commonplace on modern diesels.

Agreed.

At 5bar, with 6 or 8mm hose, any appropriate clamp ( not jubilee style ) will be more than adequate on a properly prepared hose end.
What will be ultra important, is that you use fuel hose capable of withstanding such pressures.

And AN and JIC are the same. 8mm would be incredibly rare in these sizes though, although you can get close if need be.

Try and use straight fittings where possible, as they tend to be a lot cheaper. Some companies do steel fittings too...sometimes steel is cheaper, sometimes aluminium. Shop around.

Personally, I used Earls stuff throughout on my car. Ive always had excellent service from them. I just stuck with the Superstock push on hose.

Although if doing it again, I'd use their pro-lite stuff. Black cloth overbraid hose, which looks very nice. I hate the stainless braided stuff.

I'm curious of what a "jubilee style" clamp is in comparison to one with a thread?

Are they the ones with pressed in holes for thread?

Jubilee clip:

Pukka hose clamp:

And these things are the absolute daddies - I had just one a few years ago that came with a piece of fuel hose - never found a supplier for the clamps though.

Don't get me wrong - side-drive hose clips are generally good - and pukka jubilees (UK made, not chinese junk) are really good for this kind of hose clip. I always grease them before using for the first time however - as you're tightening, too much of what you're putting in is not becoming clamping force.

Marine clamps are similar, easier to find, usually a bit more expensive because they are stainless steel.

Well, in the end I've bought this off Zenaracing:

It appears expensive until you work out the cost of the hose and the fittings.

I've also bought an FSE pump, filter and regulator from Merlin - all complete with -6 connections so it should all fit together well.

ABA used to make the small fuel line clips. No idea who does them now....

Local motor factors here keep them though.

The Jubilee style, with a worm/screw, should never be used on critical small diameter hosing. They simply do not tighten round.

I didn't bother. Paid the full UK listing price of £157.00 plus postage.

I made a couple of offers on the swirl pot on it's own the other night and both got refused, so could not be arsed this time.
