Hello!

I am looking for some advice as i have just bought my first 1275 metro turbo engine and will be putting it into my 1971 Mk2 Mini.

I need a few parts including a turbo downpipe, oil cooler, bulkhead box, turbo gauge and exhaust system. Is there any parts you would recommend or have for sale?

I am fully restoring my mini and would like to keep 10x6" wheels on it, will this have any major drawbacks i.e performance, handling, safety etc compared with a set of 13x7"

Also is there any general advice you would recommend to a novice?

Many Thanks

Tom

Hi mate, Welcome,

my choices:
for the exhaust u want maniflow turbo down pipe + maniflow 2inch system, they do it in 1 or 2 box for loud and quieter

bulkhead box, there all the same someone on here makes them, ill try find out who and edit a name into here

turbo gauge, aka boost gauge any really, tim seem common for mini's but if you want accuracy you need to splash the cash

oil cooler, overkill in my opinion, maybe for 150+bhp

deep dish 10x6 are considered one of the best choices for handling
13x7 are crap iv had 13x7, 13x6, 12x7 and driven a few mini's running 10x6 wellers id take the wellers every day,
the only drawback of the 10inchers is you cant use the 8.4inch brake disc setup, you have to use cooper s discs and calipers (7.5inch) or have the 8.4 discs machined to 7.9 and use alluminium 4 pot calipers available for KAD, minispares, mini sport

and the best advice i can give,
1.) every thing has been done before all the answers are here there is alot of reading and learning about these engine setups *wink*
2) if your going to bother doing it at all do it right first time *wink* - thats not meant to be a dig, if take short cuts they will bite you in the arse!!

Maybe by you, but there is no general consensus on the wheel size debate. My personal choice for a road car is 6x12, never seen 7x12s.

What gearbox are you running, if you are using the standard metro turbo (including final drive) you may find it a bit low geared.

Hi wil_h the engine ive bought is completely standard (as far as im aware, im picking it up this weekend) and i was hoping to put 10" wheels on as its the look i like. I plan on keeping the engine fairly standard so do you think there would be a massive difference on the gearing if the car is running as standard?
And Gavin im located in aldridge, approx 20 mins from birmingham
Cheers

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

hi tom, dont expect to pop the engine in and wind the boost up and you have a rocket as a 20 odd year old worn engine wont last very long

remember the standar actuatur is only 4psi i suggest you get an 8 psi actuator from avonbar and leave the standard engine at that !

it will go quite well
some gents on here have had over 310 bhp out of the humble A series

Hi benross, cheers for the advice on the actuator, i will look into that.
All i want out of the engine is a pretty standard reliable setup that will go well when i put my boot down.
Have you got any recommendations on parts/setup to have?
