Has any one ever had problems with their valve seals not seating properly. Just had head reconditions by Dereks Minis, upon fitting the head and driving it blue smoke poured out.

After taking rocker cover off, I noticed the first and fifth seals had come off/lefted off valve guides. This problem did happen before the recon - told it was valve guides hence worn.

Quite baffled, why its happened again. Garage thinks it may be the inner spring rubbing the seal, causing it to lift. Any suggestion would be helpful... so annoying!!!! *evil* : *angry*

is it just on the exhaust valves this has happened as i think that this can happen a lot, because they are fatter valves. hence some people dont bother fitting them on (my avonbar head doesnt have them on exhaust valves and its ok).
normally the oil will only get pulled through the intake valves/guides on vacuum.
if its the intake valve stem seals lifting the i dont know
if your sure its the head smoking then you need to take it to where you got it done id say its not right *frown*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

I am 100% sure it ths inlet seals. I have taken it back to the garage, but just wanted to get clued up before they get in touch with their version.

This problem did happen before the recon, just baffled why it is still doing it... perhaps its dodgy seals (bought from Mini Spares) anyone else had this problem???

yep had this loads of times on my na engine, i dont use them on exhaust as they is no need.

but you may find its the top cap just touching the top of the seal thus destroying it in the process, try moving the guide down a mm this usaly do the trick.

i will be making some valve guide setting tools soon if you want one!!!!.
make this job a lot easier.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

Do you think the valve guides will need resetting?

So pissed off if thats the case (oh well it will be there cost!). It just seems to be one thing after the other, you know the scenario. Cheers for your help!!!!

yes if the second spring is moving around it will lift of the seal, have you got the spring seating washer fitted?? this slops the springs moving.

also on some valve guides there is 2 slots at the top of them, it could be that there just weren't pushed on far enough in the first place.

turbo hogster is spot on about NO seals on EX valve as well as not being really needed it's also a NO, NO. as the ex valve with a seal is in great danger of sticking in the guide, as I know a few people that did this and they soon had bent valve!

PS i've use turbo hogster tool he makes many a time and it saves time and hassle, well worth getting.
