Folks,

Forgive me if it's been covered before, but a quick search didn't bring up an answer for me.

Basically, I've got a brand new regulator, and it's supplying around 5.5psi to the carby. I'm sure this is too much, and I intended to reduce to 3-3.5psi by adjusting the reg.

Unfortunately all of the available adjustment on the reg didn't shift the pressure one iota!

Any ideas? Does the engine need to run when adjusting this? Is the reg buggered? Are these regs notoriously hard to adjust?

Any advice gratefully recieved.

Matt

what is the Dia of your return line?

is the diaphram in the regulator split?

is the breather on the tank blocked?

is the return line resticed in some way?

quickest way to tell if it is the return line is to shove abit of hose onto the return outlet of the reg. then run it into the tank (down the side of the car into the filler neck) or a short peice into a feul tank. if the pressure drops then you need a new return line.

the favoured size is 8mm ID.

Thanks. Will redirect the return into a jerry can to diagnose things a bit. Currently the return is the standard mini supply diameter - 1/4" I think. Might whip the top off the reg to look at the diaphragm too. Cheers.

Remember to turn the ignition off to let the built up pressure release before you adjust to a lower pressure.

TBH IMO it's not the dia of the return pipe, as mine is very small, compaired to what "People" say is wright! And all seems well in that area on mine.

Possibly a silly question, but what type of regulator ???

Is it the Metro Turbo type (nice large diapragm and designed to regulate accurately at low pressures) or an aftermarket one meant for newer (ie, FI engines) in which case it may simply not be designed to adjust that low.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

It's a Malpassi regulator, which looks exactly like the Metro Turbo one. I doubt it's the wrong one, but I won't rule it out as being wrong...

Post-mortem:
The return pipe was blocked. I'd never have thought so (it's all new - freshly restored car), but it was. Not sure what was in there, but 80-100psi sent it flying. That allowed me to adjust down to 3psi. Which begs the question - what should it be set to?
Thanks for advice, particularly James_H, for sending me in the right direction!
Cheers.
