hi guys i received my new short loom today to convert from the 3 clocks to the single centre speedo. on the loom there is 5 push in plastic bulb holders, and 2 different type holders.
on my speedo i have 6 mounting holes for the bulbs, one for high beam, ignition, 2 for indicators and 2 for lighting the unit up.

am i being thick and have missed something or do you not use both of the holes to illuminate the back?

please tell me if i am!!

thanks

jamie

Two of the bulb holders will be for the panel lights, if my memory serves me right these should be red with a white trace, one will be for the ignition/battery charge light which should have two wires white and a brown/yellow trace, one will be for the high beam warning which should be blue with a white trace and the final one should be for the oil pressure warning lamp with should be two wires white/brown trace and white. The sixth hole you can see on the speedo is from long ago when a warning lamp was fitted for a blocked filter on the old Purolater (sp?) cartridge element filters (not spin on).

Hope this helps.

right i have checked the loom that i have and can only match 2 of the plugs that you have mentioned. blue/white trace and brown/yellow trace.
i noticed you did not mention the indicators either?
2 of the plugs have the same colour coded wires red/dark green trace, so these will be the back light?
i then have one with blue/white trace and black, one with brown/yellow trace and white and another with green/white trace with green/red trace.
i brought the loom from minispares so i assume these are the standard colours?

Right, I'm thinking too far back here, I'm used to Mk1 where the indicator light is on the end of the stalk!

Blue/white trace and black - High Beam warning
Brown/yellow trace and white - Ignition/ charge warning light
Red/dark green trace - Panel Lights x 2
Green/White trace + Green/Red trace - Indicators

You can always plug everything in, turn it all on and see what lights up when and what flashes!

Keith

Edited after I checked a wiring diagram - should know better than to trust my memory!

Is it because the extra hole you have is for mechanical oil pressure which doesnt use a bulb?

not sure but i dnt think so, on the back it has 4 raised pots, these being 2 for indicators, one for h/b and other for ign. Then it has 2 holes flush to the body which i assume are the holes to illuminate the face.

One is for the indicators (G/W&R/G) the R/B&B x2 is for lighting up the speedo. The speedo should only have one hole for indicators unless it's early, usually it's taped off i think.

Is there a rubber cap over the pot at the top? As you look at the lights the one at 4 o clock is for oil pressure (not used) and the one at 8 o clock is also unused, leaving H/B, IGN and indicators at the top.

ah right i thought that these were for the indicators! makes sense now if that is the case.
on mine this leaves the ing and h/b at the bottom.
does this mean that you dont connect from the indicators then?
also i dont have the rubber cap.

Yes the indicator one goes at the very top of the speedo. The wires are for left and right hence only one bulb holder.
