Hi there,

Yesterday I had some bad news about my turbo mini. The engine was using oil for a while now. And sometimes I lost power. But it worked, so we kept on going. And started saving up for a new engine.

Now yesterday. We did a compression test after it wouldn't go over 60km/h and a nasty rattle came out of the engine bay. Compression was as follows:

Cylinder 1 = 0 Bar
Cylinder 2 = 0 Bar
Cylinder 3 = 1 Bar
Cylinder 4 = 8 Bar

So, the engine is dead. No doubt about it. But here is my dilemma. There is budget for a new engine kit from avonbar, and a rebuilt turbo. And I will have my head looked after (cylinder head that is) at a local company which I know to be very good.

Also I will have my carb rebuild. But what i`m wondering is. Would it be better to order the right parts, and have this local bloke build my full engine. As he will be doing some work for me anyway. Is there another kit apart from the avonbar kit I need to have a look at.

The perpose of this car is daily use so it doesn't have to be the fastest mini around. It just needs to roar again. What do you guys recommend?

Local company sounds the way to go.

Am sure most places send out for machining work ,so if your guy does it all in house.!

Supose the other thing to considder is if you get different bits from different people if somthing goes wrong then whos to blame.

Where abouts are you? I'd speak to BENROSS for a rebuild!

Lightweight racer coming soon.

Offer from Benross is in. I have not yet spoken to the local dude. (Hilversum, The Netherlands) So I have no idea of what he will charge for a complete rebuild. A kit from avonbar seems not what I need. If I dont go the Benross balanced everything racing spec way. There is no need to buy a kit containing a bits and bubs I allready have. And including postage for sending a huge piece of cast iron across the pond.

So I think It either the high spec engine, or the local dude.I`m happy with anything over 100BHp anyway. Its for the misses. And I`d like to keep her *wink*

Mind you I have to say that Benross is NOT expensive. Thats probably why a lot of you bought an engine of him :)
