Hi all,

with fitting a turbo one of the warnings is not to go overboard on cam duration (max MG Metro is suggested). Does this apply to supercharging as well? I bought a supercharger kit off Ebay and I also have a Kent MD286 lying in a corner of the garage. A Longman GT15 head would top it all off. Any thoughts?

cheers,

Arnoud

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

that cams over the top as you say it will be a pig and very unpleasent to drive in traffic, .......... ok on the track balls out
go for th N/A MG metro cam or a KENT 266

that head will be just fine but........ you will have to calc your compression ratio to mid 8s or lower if you want to run a lot of boost, you can do tis by altering the chabers increasing the volume in the head and or a combination of that and piston change,
i can provide this service for you with the head if you wish ? please pm me

it does apply to super charging too but too a lesser extent than turboing.

Vmax have used 286's in blown lumps but i think that really is as far as you'l want to go.

thanks guys,

Hopefully tomorrow I'll have the Longman head (which appears to only have a 21cc champer). I like lumpy a idle so that's not a problem*wink*.
I just ordered 1,100 quid worth of panels for the car (a '76 pick-up), so first things first I guess*wink*

It's not the lumpy idle that's the problem, it's the overlap. What happens is that you blow the entire inlet charge straight through the engine and into the exhaust because both valves are open at the same time.

This is different to a turbo as the SC provides boost even at low revs whereas a turbo doesn't.

Listen to the advice from these guys or you could be very disappointed with the end result.

I would highly recommend you take BENROSS up on the offer to grind out the chambers in your cylinder head.
Also if the cylinder head has seen some service it may be advisable to have it refreshed whilst the chamber work is being done.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.
