Right so the hard drive failed on friday, so i've replaced that with a new 160gb version. It originally came with Vista but i had downgraded it to XP, but after replacing the hardrive i've put vista back on, as my XP disc has vanished.

The problem is it takes ages to start up and shut down, boot up time ranging from 5-10 mins and shut down time 10-45 mins.

From what i can tell there aren't any backround programs causing isues and its set to boot up with only the mimiumum programs and drivers.

Any ideas??

go into bios and check the disk settings, there should be 1 for comparability with so and vista and vista only, Its called acpi. Turn it on or off. That might help

Yes but pull it from the top of the key or you'll snap the tabs.
