Which would have more uses in the garage? I would've thought a blast cabinet would be more use as it would remove dirt and rust, but then I don't know how well parts washers work.

Thoughts?

Yeah I'd love a blast cab. Parts washer doesnt do much a tank of parafin and a brush cant do.

A parts washer is pretty much an essential pice of kit yet a blast cab is just useful.

Oh and a blast cab wont remove dirt, maybe a bit of paint/rust if you have a very good one. You cant put oily/dirty stuff in one. Dont underestimate the amount of labour it takes to blast stuff aswell. Its not a quick job.

blast cabs are wicked. large stuff takes time but for fiddly brackets etc you want to make look good you cant beat them. mine came from northern tools, is big and was cheap. nice quality as well bar the gun, but they're pennies.

Go to your local grit blaster for grit. i get mine for virtually nothing. If you need somewhere to go close to your work let me know as i know someone 5mins drive from there in a place called upton.

I want a parts washer as well sometime but havent got round to it yet, as everyone says, you can clean parts any way you want without one.

Question is - what did it come out looking like? Did it sparkle and squeek when you ran a finger over it?!!

not good for alloy either, had a piston in there and it killed the finish on it too.

I'd like a blast cab but I believe you need a monster compressor to run one. Mine is a decent size for air tools and spraying etc but I don't think it would be up to a blast cab.

3hp is big enough with a reasonable tank, say 150litres. i think ours is 14cfm.

even still, it does pull it down a fair bit but to be honest, you tend to do a bit, look, do a bit more etc

other thing is get an industial hoover attached to the port on the side provided, helps you too see what your doing.

oh yeah and blast in the dark with the cab light on, also helps *smiley*

For alloy bits you want to boil them with rhubarb.
