i am half way through refurbishing my radius arms and have come across a couple of small things i would like opinions on:
*i need new knuckles for the suspension, genuine ones are 13quid non gen are 3 quid, is it worth the extra 40quid for all 4?

*one off my rear wheel bearings sounds like its picked up some crap whilst i was washing it, can the bearings be split and rebuilt or should i just replace both?..they felt realy good before the clean no play a tall

cheers,

In my opinion, Yes. The non genuine stuff these days is shite, come to think about it, the stuff labled up as genuine these days is also shite.

Genuine New Old Stock is the only way *happy*

You can pull the bearings and clean them, but make sure they do not have any wear or pitting, thats when you need to change them

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I have myself some non genuine knuckle joints so hang tight on buying some I'll let you know what there like when I fit them and so on. As for bearings, tbh in my experience I'd replace them and both then knowing you have a fresh set and one less thing to worry about.

With the knuckles, have the steel parts worn or just the nylon ?

The steel bit usually only wears if crap gets into the grease (ie, cover comes off) or the nylon fails so you get steel against steel. If the steel bit still has it's chrome plating I have simply replaced the nylon cups only in the past - on the basis that the aftermarket stuff is crap.

Bearings, yes they "split" and, TBH, you should split them anyway to examine the tracks for wear or pitting..... Then decide.

cheers guys, i split the bearings down, this morning and cleaned them off, the one that was clicking has some doody scratches in it, i dont know how they could have been made, probably me yesterday when cleaning :(
and the knuckles are seized into my old high-lows they have seen better days anyway, split rubbers seem to be the probable cause

That isn't just a scratch.... it's fooked !!!!

That wasn't your cleaning - it's where the hard surface has broken up slightly, usually just from fatigue in service.

You wouldn't necissarily have heard it turning them by hand whilst it's still full of grease, but as soon as you clean the grease out, you can hear it.

A very good example as to why you should actually examine the races anyway and not just rely on how they feel or sound.....
