Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Part way through sorting a custom loom and started on the alternator section tonight.

Am i right in thinking the two all brown wires go straight to the battery (well onto the solenoid)

then the other wire, brown with yellow trace. I assume this goes to the light and also engergises the circuit. how is this connected, i was thinking it was maybe connected through a light then back to an ignition live? hence when you turned on it lit the light and energised the coil then once the alternator got running the light went out?

any help is appreciated

thanks iain

Not 100% on this as its a while since I wired mine up

I think that the brown/yellow goes direct to light on dashboard. When the alt is not charging, this terminal is earthed. The 'other side' of the alt light on the dash has a positive feed to it already, ignition switch controlled. When the alt starts to charge the earth is switched off and hence the light on the dash goes out.

(I think.......) have a look at a haynes wiring diagram to make sure, you should be able to trace alternator light wiring thru the light and then see what feeds it.

Yep thats what i figured out *smiley*

basically brown/yellow to the light and other side of the light to a switched live.

cheers for that, always good to confirm things. This should save me charging the battery all the time. Lets hope all alternators are the same as i need to find a smaller one!
