No-one has done thos before and for a very good reason. The conversion would weigh more than the drum and all the added braking ability would be useless. You only need 30% of the braking force on the rear (well maybe upto 40%, but anymore and braking would be unstable).

the design shows a distinct lack of imagination, talk about starting off with a clean sheet of paper, then not bothering to fucking draw on it,lol On 20th Apr, 2012 Paul S said:

Sounds like a pain in the tits to be honest. You would need some form of mechanical brake aswell. As above, alot of work for no gain (except weight). Just buy KAD. If you really want rear discs I suppose you might be able to use VAG rear calipers with the winding pistons for the mechanical brake. It would still take alot of work though On 12th Nov, 2009 Paul S said:

yep its the handbrake thats the difficult bit (not that te rest isnt!) although aparently on a pre 68 car you dont have to have a handbrake.

the thing is mate, the mini is quite light on the back end. especially when made lighter, most of the weight tends to come off the back.

I have to use a limiter on the rear of my car having 6 pots on the front and alloy drums and std linings - so don't waste your money! On 5th Sep, 2011 Vegard said:

Don't get confused into thinking that drums are rubbish either. They generally can out perform a disk in pure stopping power, unfortunately they can't get rid of the heat so degrade quickly.

i really dont see how it would be unstable... Think of a rally car coming up to a hair pin, yanks on the hand brake, back end breaks free and slides around the corner. Having too much rear breaking (compared to front breaking) will lead to a similar thing if you brake whilst cornering although maybe not on such an extreme scale. Also as the others have said Minis have most of the weight over the front wheels (there are several minis out there where even I can pick the back end off the ground) which also makes a big difference to braking. I know of more than one competition Mini that has the rear brake lines solder up so they only have front brakes (I'm not saying who as the rules they race under say that they are meant to have rear brakes) further I've driven a Mini without any rear brakes and I quite like the way it drove, in my opinion it suited the handling of the car and my driving style. Finally I'm not over convinced by KAD discs, as I said I don't believe that you need much rear braking and also I reckon that you could get a set of Mini fins down to the same weight or less with a bit of machining, since there quite a bit of metal that can be removed from them.
