Hi guys,

I currently have a 1293cc n/a tuned engine, i would like to turbo it, i have someone willing to mod my head... but i think i'm going to need to do more to lower the compression? i think i have 6cc dish omega pistons which someone said i could prob dish out to 8cc.. with a 4cc head gasket would that be enough? I would like to run between 10 - 12psi... I did try searching but im late for work now..

Cheers guys

I'm not sure.... Turbo Phil (on The Mini Forum, he must be on here too) said he would do some work on them. What does a standard head have? Turbo heads normally 28cc right?

If you can get 28cc's in the head, then you should have a CR of 8.6:1 with your current 6cc dish.

I think that's right?

would 8.6:1 be ok to run around 12psi or should i change to 10cc dished pistons... i don't really want to run the risk of a meltdown. MED do some die cast 10cc pistons for £280 which isn't to bad.

Also going for the avonbar phase 2 cam, megajolt and have a Uno turbo intercooler.

Cheers for the advice guna go check out the beginners tech posts

welcome to the forum dave, i would get those 11 cc omega cast pistons they are well proven for turbo use.

and while you are at it maybe have it bored & honed the next size up, you then have a new engine.

Out of interest... how many people on here have high compression low boost engines? what do you think of these? I have been given some ideas.

If the current engine is good, it may be worth selling it and starting fresh if youre going to the effort

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I used to run mine at 9.6:1 and ran quite alot of boost. It did pink in warm weather though. *oh well* They are good for a daily drive if you limit the boost to stop pinking, the engines are really smooth and quite responsive (even with a T3). At the end of the day its just an N/A with a turbo bolted on the side at that CR.

You can get an engine with a lower CR to drive well too by selecting the right sized turbo. There is no point running a really low CR if your not going to run high boost, it will only become more slugish off boost...its all about compromise. *wink*

Dont know what counts as high C/R in this context but I,m running 8.8:1 and up to 16 psi - so far so good.

Im also running 8.8:1 and it works really well for me. TBH I think its a good compromise, especially as most of my miles (and yours I guess) and road miles. Still building my clutch to take more than 10psi though! *hehe!*
