Bah. Got all the engine sweetly installed, and fired up 1st time.
Great!
Problem is, it only seemed to run (at idle) with the choke slightly out, so i checked the mixture, and richened it up gas analyser says 3.3 percent at 800rpm idle. Now it will idle, but when you add throttle it "pops" and stops (not good) If i advance the ignition, it speeds up dramaticly, but then runs pretty hot.
Turbo is spinning nicely, the fuel is clean as is the jet.
No air leaks to the manifold. Remembering that this engine has been rebuilt, i'm guessing that my timing is way way out.

Any tips for a good angle of advance for this setup:-
Turbo head, avonbar racing type (biiiiiig combustion chambers).
Omega turbo pistons (big dish)
Kent500 cam, electronic dizzy (standard turbo).

Or preferably a good way of taking a 1st guess with no strobe?

Approx 8.2 / 1 compression

Any help greatly apreciated.
(crank is wedged and tuftrided, flywheel is aq MED (not ultra) light billet steel)

Definately dashpot.......!!!!!

Last time I ran a new engine with no oil in the dashpot it made impressive flames from the exhaust but ran like a bag of spanners

Have you repolaced the carb gasket with the wrong one?

You need a turbo gasket as they have extra holes in them!

Let me know how you get on when you get this engine on the rolling road. The one I am building is to a very similar sounding spec so I will be interested to see what power it makes!
Cheers

Right - Yep - this is now sorted! Cheers for the advice, I had an issue with a duff ignitor module. My dashpot was topped up (I used to tune twin carbs on an MGB and was one of the 1st things I checked)
Then I discovered that the ignition was *a long way* advanced - this was solved in about 30 seconds (so i didnt burn it up!)
Revs like a git now... sounds great.

You reckon 25 degrees ought to do it?

What Oil would you recommend, as i dont think standard will cut it anymore?

(checked the carb gasket, its fine, but thanks)
