Hi everyone.

I just fitted up the front end with genuine HiLos that I just got from MiniSpares, but the knuckles are really loose in the bore of the HiLo. By my measurements, the knuckles have a 12.7mm shaft, and the HiLos have a 13.1 or 13.2mm bore. Is it okay to have this loose fit, or is there a knuckle joint with a thicker shaft I need to get?

MiniSpares:
a. Don't seem to sell more than the one type, (GSV1118?)
b. Don't mention the need for different knuckles with these HiLos, and
c. Haven't yet replied to my email.

EDIT: The knuckles are a slightly better fit in the (rear) struts. I even had to knock one in with a hammer. So there could well be a bit of an issue with consistent bore sizes, if nothing else.

Thanks for any advice.
Matt

the knucles should all be the same.

the suspension should be under compression all the time so that amount of gap/play shouldnt be an issue.

I'm sure I have heard of one specific Hi-Lo that uses a different (larger shank) knuckle joint, seem to think it was Mini Sport ones though? IN any case get onto MiniSpares as either there should be a different knuckle to suit, or the hilos are machined wrong.

Thanks for the replies. I have seen that MiniSport sell a specific knuckle for their AdjustaRide hilo, which is an interesting approach in itself. I'd love to know why they opted for a slightly different knuckle, surely no advantage in itself, maybe it was a production issue, allowed them to keep costs down somehow? Hopefully MiniSpares reply, otherwise its an international phone call to them. I'm not really happy to let it go as is...could flog out my nice new hilos...
cheers

Minisports AdjustAride Knuckles have a larger diameter shank, I know that for sure

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

They will have done it so as that you HAVE to buy knuckles from them.

We sell 3 types, GSV1118 and GSV1118MS will fit fine, i think they designed the origianl Hilo with a slighter larger hole so the knuckles would be easier to remove as you cannot punch them out through the hole like you can with the alloy trumpets.

Gavin,
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like there is no problem - phew! Now that you mention it, it makes sense that the fit is so loose, given that there is no punch access.
Thanks again to all for the replies.

Just to clarify the 3rd type we sell will also fit (GSV1264) it just has a built in spacer for later cars which had a slightly higher ride height (so not much point if you have hilo's!).
