Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

As a few of you know Im currently building a car for track/drag type racing and am lighten the car wherever possible. Currently spec with stripped out interior, no bins etc, carbon flip front and doors.

Im just wondering whether fitting a carbon boot floor will cause me to have problems when getting an MOT?

Does anybody have problems with the ones they have fitted?

cheers

Yes to the hyd handbrake.

The rules are that there must be a mechanical braking system fitted to the car. So as long as you leave the cables still connected up you won't have a problem.
The way round it is to run some 'dummy' cables to the rear calipers so that mr mot man sees his mechanical link and is nice and happy. Of course these cables come into the car, and then sit under the carpet doing nothing, and also with a hyd handbrake there is no way you are going to fail the brake roller test either is there.......

As for the c/f boot floor......mmmmmm.....not sure on that one. I would imagine you may struggle, as they could construe that the removal of the boot floor removes strength from the rear subframe mounting points.

Definately one to check up on before you get the grinder out.

yeah ive been told it may causes problems as its within 30cm of subby mountings. its ok if you run a beam axle but not a subby..
i think ill get away with it but i want to check first!

If you have a beam axle then yeah it would be OK. But with a subframe probably not, and more than anything, I wouldn't want to weaken the rear susp mounts that much just for my own piece of mind as much as anything.

Been at work since 6 am oh how I love mornings....gggrrrrr

to be honest i think for what your gonna gain swopping floor for c/f i personally wouldnt bother. i dont know the exact measurment think your about right with 30cms iain for corrosion in the area of suspension mounts on mot so no floor attall must count as this?? *smiley*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Yeah but cutting it out isnt exactly corrosion....

carbon boot floors look ace though!!!! plus i guess they're more aerodynamic. same effect could be had by taking the battery box out mind! *happy*

i reckon you'd be suprised how much you'd gain!!! even bits like the bins etc weigh a lot when they all get added up.

If your'e going to fit a CF boot floor it is essential that you strengthen the area between the damper towers. This means that you must weld in a bar between them. This all makes the car stiffer than normal, but not lighter.

had the mot done, it passed by the way!
the guy said that its a bit of a dodgy one regarding the c/f boot floor as the ministy states NO CORROSION to be allowed in the area but also its a load bearing panel.
he said if i had one he would pass it but also said every tester would have a different opinion.

so all depends on how nice you are to your mot tester i suppose!
