hi, i have been on this site for a while. have built my engine to run at 10 psi on boost.

have not looked into detail about adjustable boost. i know that metro turbos use an ecu that controls boost from about 4 psi up to 7.

can i use a standard actuator and bleed valve to adjust from about 4 up to 10?

i know this is basic stuff but if anyone could give pointers towards fitting such a setup it would be mch appreciated. thanks

Yes you can use a bleed valve on the standard actuator to get 10psi, no probs.

Unless its mullered,as mine turned out to be.Fit an actuator which gives you 10lbs without boost then you can bleed it until it blows the engine -you know it makes sense !.

i dont use a bleed valve any more i use a electronic boost controller works a treat i can have 2 settings at what ever boost i want 7 10 15 18 what ever press of a button and it changes to the other one

sounds good, what one do you use?

here is the boost controller i use

basicly you plumb the solonoid in line in the actuator feed and connect the clip to the main unit

the main unit then needs the following:
1x pos +
1x neg -
1x ignition +
1x pressure feed(vac/boost like a boost gauge)

As far as I can tell this is just a variation on the bleed valve technique, with multiple bleed options, electronically controlled.I only need two settings, normal and bloody hell thats quick, selected by a flick switch and solenoid.Total cost about £5 instead of £95,but it does not have the pub talk value of then expensive one.

very true however a bleed valve perminantly bleads off air where as this is closed untill("closed circuit") the dediered boost pressure is reached then it opens this minimizes the lag on the turbo as it does not need to over come what ever you are bleeding off before it can pressurise the system. aparently it also gives a more stable boost pressure (so say the jap guys)

but i thought that the spring and ball bearing ones do the same?

the spring pressure (user defined) keeps the bearing on its seat untill the boost pressure over comes the spring pressure and then bleeds off the air?

or am i talking shit and just thought up a new bleed valve?? haha

Yes an MBC should have the same effect.

i had never heard of these ball bearing ones how does it work like the oil pressure release valve?
If thats the case then i would agree with phil same effect keeping it closed untill the boost pressure is reached like a safty valve on a steam train or radiator cap

a proper electronic boost controller is an electronic restrictor in the boost line to the actuator, it then monitors the boost level and adjusts it to what you have set, as such it never "bleeds" so does not waste boost pressure to atmosphire
